altThe Horse Industry Association of Alberta presented its "Equine Welfare and Care" exhibit throughout the Spruce Meadows school tours program and the Spruce Meadows 'National' in June.

The 30x60 pavilion included exhibits on feed, water & nutrition, composting and manure management, gaits of the horse, shelter & clothing and life cycle, which displayed a live mare and foal. School children and members of the public were encouraged to touch every part of the displays, including the horses.

Throughout the weekend, measuring how many hands high people were seemed to be the most popular activity for adults, and mucking a stall for a prize a hit with kids of all ages. The prizes were donated by the Alberta Stables Initiative, which was involved in the delivery and success of the booth throughout the entire week. Loaned display items came from Okotoks Veterinary Clinic, University of Calgary: Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Spruce Meadows horse program.
Schools attending came from Calgary, Crossfield, High River, Okotoks and included home schools. Total attendance for the schools was 987 students. The weekend sun brought the crowds -- Friday: 9,317, Saturday: 29,898 and a 'National' Sunday record of 37,254!
