Mr. Alex Atamanenko, M.P. of British Columbia Southern Interior, is scheduled to be accorded the Private Member's Order of Precedence time slot on or about March 31, 2014 to initiate debate in the House of Commons on a proposed Bill or Motion of his choosing.

He will select for second reading debate Bill C-322, "An Act to amend the Health of Animals Act and the Meat Inspection Act (slaughter of horses for human consumption)."

This bill will prohibit the processing of any horse meat product for human consumption. When horse processing was effectively banned in the United States, horse welfare was compromised. The plight of the "unwanted horse" includes neglect, abandonment, and prolonged suffering. The kind of legislation introduced in Bill C-322 will lead to unacceptable horse welfare issues.

Please contact your MP to educate them about the negative effects this bill will have on the welfare of our horses and horse industry.
